Assistant Head of School and Dean of Academics

Garry Hallman joined WNA as its Academic Dean in July of 2021.  He has almost two decades of educational experience working in both public and private schools.  After his graduation from Virginia Tech, Garry’s educational career began at Carson Long Military Academy as a Math and Social Studies teacher.  After serving as the Math Department Chair, Garry was promoted to the position of Academic Dean.  During the remainder of his time at Carson Long, he restructured the academic program to better serve the needs of the students.  As a result, the curriculum expanded to offer a greater variety of courses, overall grades improved, and earned college scholarship money quadrupled for graduating seniors.  Due to a family need, Garry returned to his hometown of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and began work at Hempfield School District as part of their technology department.  After seven years away from private schools, he is excited at the opportunity to return once again to the small, independent school environment.

Garry has both a Bachelors of Science in Computer Engineering as well as a Bachelors of Arts and Masters of Arts in History.  He remains passionate about the value of a well-rounded education and the belief that every student has the right to a personalized educational experience and the responsibility to pursue the individualized opportunities that will lead to success.  When not working, Garry enjoys losing himself in a great story, spending time with his family, or dreaming of his next travel destination.
