Make An Impact
As the oldest boarding school in the United States, West Nottingham Academy has a tradition of philanthropy that spans nearly three centuries. Since the school’s founding in 1744, thousands of alumni, parents, and friends have made it a priority to support the school’s mission.

Unrestricted gifts allow West Nottingham the greatest flexibility in meeting operational needs tied to strategic initiatives, as well as unanticipated needs that emerge during the academic year. While leadership gifts to the Nottingham Fund comprise an important part of operational support, the collective impact of donors, at all levels, creates a positive financial impact on the school beyond that of any single donor.
The Nottingham Fund, our annual fund, allows you to make an immediate and direct impact on each student and faculty member, as well as to the quality and range of school programming. Among other things, donations to the Nottingham Fund support:
- Innovative and challenging academic, athletic, and art programs
- Recruitment of talented faculty
- Support for student scholarships for families with demonstrated need
- Small class sizes and individual attention to students
- Educational technology
- Maintenance of a first-class facility
- Financial relief during the COVID-19 pandemic
A Million Reasons to Give Campaign
Gifts to the school will not be used for operations; they will allow the school to deliver programs and opportunities for students and faculty beyond what is covered by tuition and have a direct impact on the everyday student experience. From WNA’s greatest needs to specialty areas such as the arts, athletics, financial aid, the endowment, and your area of interest, your gift will help to make it happen.

If you are a U.S. taxpayer and at least 70 1/2 years of age, you may make gifts to West Nottingham Academy from your IRA without having to count those funds as part of your adjusted gross income. Consequently, you do not have to pay taxes on the gifted amount.
Distributions, which count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD), must be made directly from the IRA trustee to WNA, and the individual maximum is $100,000 per calendar year. This is a great reason to consider using your IRA (instead of cash) to make a charitable gift.

Brokers and IRA administrators don’t always include donors’ names on stock transfers and IRA distribution checks, so if you’re planning to make a gift to West Nottingham Academy using an IRA or stocks, please let us know so that we can identify and recognize your gift promptly. And, please let us know if you want your gift used for a particular purpose.
If you own appreciated stock or mutual funds, you can gift them to West Nottingham Academy. By doing so you can take a charitable deduction for an amount equal to the value of the stock on the day we receive it, and you avoid any capital gains tax that you would have paid had you sold the stock. In this way, the tax savings can be much more significant than with a gift of cash.

Leave a lasting legacy by considering a planned gift with West Nottingham Academy.
