West Nottingham Academy offers a strong education-based athletics program that values integrity, academics, good character, and the spirit of competition. Boarding school athletes will learn to be responsible members of a team who hold themselves and their classmates to a high standard while working towards common team goals. Our equal opportunity program promotes lifelong leadership skills under the instruction of caring coaches. Whether students are new to a sport or an experienced player, they will find a place to grow, learn, and find success.
Athletics build community and school spirit through the engagement of students, parents, staff, and alumni. Sporting events also create an opportunity for our neighbors to enjoy our campus and community.
Additionally, WNA offers a number of non-athletic co-curricular activities for those passionate about certain projects. Students must participate in an athletic pursuit two out of the three seasons; however, they may apply to participate in one of the non-athletic activities for their third season.
West Nottingham Academy boasts a 100-acre campus, much of which is utilized for athletics. Our winding pathways and trails serve as a course for our semi-annual 5k races and our expansive sports fields set the scene for fierce competition. The Ware Field House, our on-campus gymnasium, houses our basketball and volleyball courts, in addition to an athletic training center, cardio machines and equipment, and a strength training center.
WNA provides a skilled sports medicine team to care for our student athletes. Our team of athletic trainers is certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and licensed in the state of Maryland. They are responsible for keeping all parts of the team involved, communicating with the school nurse and coaches to make them aware of any student athlete injuries. Students requiring intervention for sports-related injuries can visit the athletic trainer during after school activities. WNA is equipped with a comprehensive athletic training room located in Ware Field House, where students receive services for a variety of acute and chronic athletic injuries. The athletic trainer works under the supervision of a physician to help prevent injuries, evaluate injuries, provide immediate care for injuries, provide treatment and educate the athlete.
